Netiquette Rules (Do's and Don'ts)

How to use Shoutbox?

1. Introduce yourself to everyone.

Use your first name and your city or village. (e.g. Márkó from Zsombó) Don't pretend to be someone else, or post under several usernames.

2. Be civil, friendly and respectful to others.

This is important in any situation, but even more so in this Shoutbox, because only text is seen, and you cannot see facial expressions or hear tones of voice. Use emoticons to show your feelings. :D

3. Give people a chance to answer you.

Patience is a virtue. :)

4. Don't spam or flood the Shoutbox with repeated questions, statements, or links.

It is very annoying to read the same thing many times.

5. Avoid typing in all caps.

It is hard on the eyes to read and considered rude. It is the Internet equivalent to SHOUTING. If you want to call attention to a particular word or phrase, do so in the same manner that you would in conversation. Just ask, and see who answers.

6. Use proper English.

Write complete sentences to practice your English. Ignore Internet slang.

7. Don't forget: you are being moderated.

Our Shoutbox is being monitored by teachers, messages are archived; keep that in mind and use appropriate language. :) Messages that are too crude may get deleted.

8. This Shoutbox is solely for Comenius children and teachers.

If you are a guest here, your comments are welcome in our Guest Book. :)

9. Don't post any personal data on the message board.

Your personal information is valuable, so you should treat it as you would any other valuable item. Never give your postal address, e-mail address, phone number, date of birth etc.

10. No cyber-bullying is tolerated here.

Cyberbullying is the use of the Internet to harm other people, in a deliberate, repeated, and hostile manner. Don't forget: cybebullying hurts.

Thank you for respecting these rules and applying them.
